WBKVIB’S vision is to create sustainable eco-system in the Khadi Sector which can maximize the utilization of resources and widen the area of operation to make the Board emerge as the KHADI leader in the Country in near future.

OBJECTIVES OF KHADI CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

• To establish Raw Material Bank (Sliver/Roving) which will be procured from KVIC’s Central Sliver Plant, Hazipur.

• To supply the raw materials as per the requisition of Direct Khadi Production Unit.

• To add the deeper knowledge required by the concerned unit.

• To operates spare parts godown (Charkha & loom).

• To produce Khadi fabric.

• To establish dyeing unit.

• To provide a readily available support system.

• To keep all records through computer.

• To import training through master trainee.

• To sell the Product from it’s own Outlets.

Skilling of artisans focuses on technology, design, and creating an Iconic Production Center in West Bengal.

On 09.03.2011, a Khadi Awareness Camp was held with officials including Shri Mrityunjaya Bandyopadhyay and Shri Madhusudan Naskar.

GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: HOWRAH

Despite being a major industrial hub, Howrah was a "NO KHADI" district until 2014. Following a feasibility study, a direct production unit was established, beginning with skilling programs for 40 spinners and 25 weavers through the Udaynarayanpur Khadi O Gram Unnayan Sanstha.

Name of the Block: Udaynarayanpur (Block lies between 22° 43’ 01” North latitude and between 87° 58’ 30” East latitude)

Population density: 2900/Sq. Km.

River: Damodar at North West

Boundary of the Block: North- Pursura Block (Hooghly)

South- Amta- I & II (Howrah)

East- Jangipara (Hooghly)

West- Khanakul (Hooghly)

Distance of the unit: 43 Km. from Howrah city

Previous livelihood of the artisans were mainly agricultural work and some were shifted from handloom activities who were mostly working in an un-organized set up which made them prone to exploitation by MAHAJON or MIDDLEMAN.

Series of efforts had been taken by the KVIB Head Quarter to redress the problems and since after two consecutive years the unit was started witnessing good growth in terms of production, development, sales etc. Besides that the same unit have already been established at gaza village under Kurchi Shibpur G.P under same block areas.

The average performance of the unit till date is more than that of other direct production unit of the Board. It had also created an enabling environment of spinning & weaving activities under a single roof as to render better services in the right direction. Now this centre is competent enough in all respect and may be termed as integration competency centre. From record we can say that each stakeholder- the Board, the facilitator, the artisans has performed their role properly in making quality fabric product and almost defect less spinning.

It is also heartening to note that the authority of the Board has identified the unit as the “TOP DEFFECT FREE PRODUCT PRODUCER” which result less wastage during next stage of production.

Now, the centre is being promoted to a ‘KHADI COMPETENCY PRODUCTION UNIT’, and restructured with the following-

• A. i) Spinning Unit (40c yarn) = 80 nos.

• ii) Spinning Unit (70c yarn) = 40 nos.

• iii) Spinning Unit (100c – 150c) = 50 nos.

• B. Weaving unit with pre-loom activities

• C. Dying Unit

• D. Printing Unit

• E. Selling Unit: Fabrics are being sold to Khadi Institution

Or, Fabrics are lifted by the Central Store, 12, B.B.D. Bag, Kol- 700 001 for selling of ready to use materials through Khadi Gramin Outlets of Board.

F. Facilitating agency was selected and engaged to run the production activities properly to elevate the production up to the desired level.

Dyeing unit

At present there are 170 spinners and 80 weavers who were imparted the necessary development training and producing products as per the desired level.

Production Planning and Control (PPC)

Production Planning and Control (PPC) therefore, is an effort to optimize the process of conversion of raw materials into finished fabrics required in the market. Since various activities are involved in the conversion of raw materials into finished goods, PPC is and has to be an integrated function the production unit has to derive maximum benefit out of planning. All the functions have inter-links; and the more such inter links are considered in the planning process, the better will be the planning process.
